Not in your backyard, yet.
You will have seen this images on our website and wondered what the heck is that monster?
The green blocks are current housing, showing the typical houses of Cambridge such as the Petersfield district and Romsey which are mostly 2 storey home. Also on the images are St Matthew’s Gardens which is mostly comprised 3.5 storey houses.
The images in grey are the proposed new lab space units on the Beehive site, currently forming part of the application as we understand it. Not that when we refer to storeys for housing we mean one storey. A lab space or industrial space is 2.5 storeys so each floor is taller than a residential space.
We have reached out for confirmation or our drawings via our councillors with no response. For transparency we can tell you that the measurements are taken from the current planning application (2023) and we’ve measured the domestic buildings ourselves.
You might be living elsewhere in the city and be thinking that it’s not in my backyard.
It could be.
Developments set precedences. By which we mean that a developer will look at the area and use heights to guide what they consider to be a good plan that will pass. (We’re not sure why we’ve got 41m tall urban heat monster in an area of domestic housing either). If there is a site that’s been built, they can use that as evidence to go large.
If the Beehive did get through with 41m buildings (plus plant) it could very well happen near you. This is why you must object.
Three things you can do right now
Share this website with your friends and networks.

Write a letter of objection if you haven’t done so already and ask three people you know to do the same. Remember anyone over the age of 16 in your house can write their own letter too. You can download a sample one here to help you. Our home page has all the details on where to send it.
And a bonus action! Tell your councillor that you’re concerned (but not if they are on planning as we’re not allowed to lobby them). Here’s where to find your local councillor.
